I finished watching Chuck, now I'm just rewatching HIMYM until I find the next binge watching show.

Someday, season 6 of Archer will be on Netflix. :/

I need to get back to it myself. I think it's time for me to read the whole book finally as well. I started it but got distracted by other books, which was a common experience when I was working in the book store.

He had a different story for every set of eyes
How can he remember who he’s talking to?
’Cause I know it ain’t me, and I hope it isn’t you
I’m armed to the teeth

I ruin everything
I get my bony hands on

And here we go now over the bridge of sighs
We will get a cross like Christ, crucified
It’s like a birth but it is in reverse

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The Dead Flag Blues
The car is on fire, and there’s no driver at the wheel, and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides, and a dark wind blows. The government is corrupt, and we’re on so many drugs with the radio on and the curtains drawn. We are trapped in the belly of this horrible machine, and the machine is bleeding to death. The sun has fallen down, and the billboards are all leering, and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles.

It went like this: The buildings tumbled in on themselves; mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble and pulled out their hair. The skyline was beautiful on fire, all twisted metal stretching upwards, everything washed in a thin orange haze. I said, “Kiss me, you are beautiful; these are truly the last days.” You grabbed my hand, and we fell into it like a daydream or a fever.

We woke up one morning and fell a little further down; for sure it’s the valley of death. I open up my wallet, and it’s full of blood.

I just came downtown here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don’t even know what gingham is, but she goes through about ten rolls a week of that stuff. You are free to do what we tell you!

The Supreme Court says pornography is anything without artistic merit that causes sexual thoughts, that’s their definition, essentially. No artistic merit, causes sexual thoughts. Hmm… Sounds like… every commercial on television, doesn’t it? You know, when I see those two twins on that Doublemint commercial? I’m not thinking of gum. I am thinking of chewing, so maybe that’s the connection they’re trying to make.

I have this feeling man, ’cause you know, it’s just a handful of people who run everything, you know… that’s true, it’s provable. It’s not… I’m not a fucking conspiracy nut; it’s provable. A handful, a very small elite, run and own these corporations, which include the mainstream media. I have this feeling that whoever is elected president, like Clinton was, no matter what you promise on the campaign trail – blah, blah, blah – when you win, you go into this smoke-filled room with the twelve industrialist capitalist scumfucks who got you in there. And you’re in this smoky room, and this little film screen comes down, and a big guy with a cigar goes, “Roll the film.” And it’s a shot of the Kennedy assassination from an angle you’ve never seen before that looks suspiciously like it’s from the grassy knoll. And then the screen goes up and the lights come up, and they go to the new president, “Any questions?” “Er, just what my agenda is.” “First we bomb Baghdad.” “You got it…”

They don’t want the voice of reason spoken, folks, ’cause otherwise, we’d be free. Otherwise, we wouldn’t believe their fucking horseshit lies, nor the fucking propaganda machine of the mainstream media and buy their horseshit products that we don’t fucking need and become a third world consumer fucking plantation, which is what we’re becoming. Fuck them! They are liars and murderers. All governments are liars and murderers, and I am now Jesus, and this is MY compound.

The world is like a ride at an amusement park. It goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it’s very brightly coloured and it’s very loud and it’s fun for awhile. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question, is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, “hey – don't worry, don’t be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride…” And we… kill those people. Haha. “Shut him up. We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real.” It’s just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. Jesus murdered; Martin Luther King mudered; Malcolm X murdered; Gandhi murdered; John Lennon murdered; Reagan… wounded. But it doesn’t matter because it’s just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defences each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace. Thank you; you’ve been great.

I've heard good things. I watched W/ Bob and David which I liked, and finished the most recent Rick and Morty season which was naturally brilliant. Nathan For You started out stronger than where it's finishing at, but it only can really be compared to its own best episodes, so who knows how fair I'm being. The bit with the mall santa as the astronaut was one of the hardest times I've laughed in recent memory. Last Week Tonight ended it's 2015 run which has fully bummed me out.

I like it, but I don't know if that's because I like Marc from elsewhere or if the show is actually good.

I mean, I think it is, but there you go.

I've been binge-watching Person of Interest lately. Pretty great show. Unusually for TV they actually understand computers and you can tell that in the cases where the hacking stuff diverges from reality it's for the sake of the story rather than because they don't know what they're talking about. (Mostly, if it took as much time to hack someone's phone in the show as it does in real life, the entire premise of the show would probably be impossible to depict on TV). It's one of the more realistic depictions of an AI I've seen onscreen. The research for other stuff depicted on the show (interrogations, Wall Street, etc.) seems to be done pretty well as well. Plus it has Michael Emerson, which is a plus for any show.

Also started River lately on the netflicks and that's also really well done. I've only seen two episodes of that thus far (there are only six total thus far; not sure if they're going to make a second series).

Finally, I started Jessica Jones and that's living up to expectations thus far as well, though I've only seen two episodes so far. I would strongly recommend all of them.

I still need to watch Transparent on Amazon. Season two of that came out fairly recently so it's probably a good time to start.

As far as non-streaming stuff, I quite enjoyed the New Year's special of Sherlock. Moffat lives to subvert expectations like that; I should have known he was lying when he said (SPOILER) it had nothing to do with the main series continuity.

I've found that his sensibilities don't really translate to a sitcom format outside of a few episodes. I think he's a really underdeveloped actor (he's never really acted before this). I can't recommend the show, but I still watch it because I love Maron. Also, I felt like his sensibilities didn't really translate to a theater for his last special. The material was fine, but his style just looks totally wrong on a stage like that. Thinky Pain is my favorite stand up special in years, and I think it has a lot to do with the room he's in for that special, because that's what his act is designed for.

Oh, also, I forgot to mention The Expanse. That, Jessica Jones, and The Man in the High Castle are probably my favourite TV show débuts this season. Might pick up the book series.

I ain’t looking for no trouble, mister.” “Pick up the gun.” Boom, boom. “You all saw him. He had a gun.”

moar I’ll show you politics in America. Here it is, right here. “I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs.” “I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking.” “Hey, wait a minute, there’s one guy holding out both puppets!” “Shut up! Go back to bed, America! Your government is in control. Here's Love Connection. Watch this and get fat and stupid. By the way, keep drinking beer, you fucking morons.”

All governments are liars and murderers. Go back to bed, America! Your government has figured out how it all transpired. Go back to bed, America! Your government is in control again. Here, here’s American Gladiators. Watch this, shut up! Go back to bed, America! Here is American Gladiators; here is 56 channels of it! Watch these pituitary retards bang their fucking skulls together and congratulate you on living in the land of freedom! Here you go, America: You are free to do what we tell you!

I'm very behind on my television viewing, though my friends have sung the praises of Jessica Jones endlessly. I watched Daredevil and had fun with it for a few episodes then got totally bored with it and finished it just because I started it. Am I in for a similar type of show with Jessica Jones? I feel that I am, and I'm just so fatigued by superhero stuff that I want to take a break. I barely saw any of the last two years worth of Marvel stuff for that reason. But if it's really singularly excellent, I'll give it a shot.

I've only seen the first two episodes thus far, so I can't speak to the overall quality of the show, but David Tennant seems to be reason to watch the show by himself. I'll give you a more thorough report when I'm further into it (I'll probably watch more this weekend). I still haven't watched the last two episodes of Daredevil either; I kind of agree with you that the earlier episodes were more interesting than the later ones.

Regarding Marvel stuff, for me the essential stuff among recent releases that I've seen in their entirety is Agent Carter, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Winter Soldier. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just barely misses the "essential" mark because it took awhile to get good, but these days it's one of the TV shows I look forward to most.

I binged the season of Ash vs Evil Dead.

Also started watching Trailer Park Boys again from the start because my flatmates haven't seen it yet.

I loved GoG, and thought Ant Man was fine, but aside from that didn't have a ton of interest in seeing the other stuff. Agents of SHIELD just looked like a generic TV action show to me, which is a category so broad for me that I have no problem chucking The Walking Dead in there.

So much television doesn't appeal to me these days, which is a shame because a lot of it is probably great. Even shows I like, such as Game of Thrones, seem to have gone off the rails for me and I'm not that interested in seeing what happens next. I was a huuuuuge fan of the first season of True Detective, but the second season was pretty horrendous and I couldn't even finish the last episode without completely losing interest. I like that Rick and Morty, though. I can't get enough of that show. Silicon Valley was pretty great this last season. And I've been enjoying rewatching Curb Your Enthusiasm. And I quite like Trevor Noah on The Daily Show. As far as dramas go, though, there isn't really anything on that I really like, which is a strange phenomenon, I almost always have "a show" that I'm really into, be it Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, True Detective, or when I was a lad stuff like Lost or 24. I used to have viewing parties for Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad at my apartment, but there just doesn't seem to be anything on that me or my friends are really invested in anymore. I don't know, man. Ice cream has started to taste like sand to me.

I forgot about Fargo. I thought the first season was excellent, which honestly sort of surprised me even after the good reviews. I expected some decently well-written fan fiction.

Fargo S2 is the best thing to be on TV since Breaking Bad imo. I even prefer it to True Detective S1, which while amazing, was trying a liiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttle bit too hard sometimes.

So Orphan Black and Archer are back and I couldn’t be happier. I sort of feel like both of these shows are every bit as great as they’ve ever been; they both seem to be able to keep reinventing themselves without betraying what made them great in the first place. Other returning shows I’m completely engrossed in are The Blacklist, which actually, by all indications, did something I did not think it would ever do in last night’s episode, and Elementary. I’ve also gotten pretty engrossed in the new series The Catch, which is fairly typical Shonda Rhimes fare stylistically (if you’ve seen Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, or How to Get Away with Murder, you have a fairly good idea what to expect), but in terms of genre is something I’ve never seen attempted before, namely a heist-mystery.

This puts me in the interesting box of having nearly all of my favourite shows aired on Thursdays. Of the shows I listed, only Elementary is not a Thursday show, and it used to be one until they moved it to Sundays. Orphan Black, meanwhile, was moved from Saturdays (where it used to immediately follow Doctor Who) into a time slot where it seems to be airing opposite Archer, I think. Good thing I have a TiVo is all I can say.

I think the only other shows I’m actively watching are Castle, which is a lot better now that they’ve dropped the silly romantic melodrama that marred the first half of the season, and Modern Family. I’m trying to keep up with Better Call Saul, Agent Carter, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., both of Marvel’s Netflix shows, and The X-Files, and probably some other stuff I’m forgetting, but there’s just too much great television on right now. It’s hopeless, especially since I’ve spent a significant portion of the last few months juggling school and full-time work.

I’m going to have to start watching Game of Thrones again when the new season starts, I think. I haven’t even tried to catch up, but I’ve read all the books and kept up with spoiler threads about the series so hopefully my main problem will be identifying faces with names rather than keeping up with all the ridiculous changes that have been made to the book’s story lines.

As far as streamed shows, I’m currently watching Downton Abbey with my parents, which is proving to be a lot more engrossing than I thought it would. I’m also finishing off Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries by myself; I just finished off season 2, which means I have 8 episodes left (not sure why season 3 was so much shorter than the first two seasons, but oh well). I’m still enjoying that show a lot too.

The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

I'm behind on tons of stuff, but has anyone been watching The People vs. OJ Simpson? I'm about halfway through and I'm pretty blown away by the quality. I'll get into it a bit more but I'm on mobile right now.

I’ll probably watch it at some point. I didn’t think I’d be interested in it because I was already bored with the OJ Simpson trial the first time around, but given how much people who lived through it have been raving about it I might end up watching it anyway. I also want to watch both seasons of ABC’s American Crime, which has received what are quite possibly the most rapturous reviews I’ve seen any network show get in years.

The last season of Orphan Black was pretty much straight up bad. This season would have to be a huge step up for me to consider going back.
quote
Howth Castle and Environs
Not sure what you disliked about it, but if it’s the labyrinthine number of conspiracies that raise new questions without many answers being given, this season seems to have taken a huge step back from that. The first episode is almost entirely devoted to a lengthy flashback filling in a lot of the missing backstory about (SPOILER) Beth Childs and Neolution. It does introduce a mysterious new clone as well, but the creators have confirmed that she knows a lot more than the other characters do, and that she is going to be revealing a lot of it throughout the course of the season. The (SPOILER) Castor plot seems to be mostly done as well, although there apparently is at least one surviving (SPOILER) Castor clone besides (SPOILER) Mark.

The A.V. Club liked the new season a lot more than the previous one, too, for whatever that’s worth.

Mostly I just hate how gutless it is. There are an unbelievable number of fake-out deaths, including Cosima who was vomiting up her guts in season 2 then magically fine in season 3. The writers don't seem to think the show actually needs to go anywhere, so the plot lines keep cycling back on each other while being padded out with inane subplots like Allison "breaking bad" in season 3. Even if this season turned out to be awesome I'd have a lot of trouble mustering up the enthusiasm to give a shit about these characters any more.
