Just unlocked Vampire in Bravely Default and I imagine the rest of the game should be pretty smooth from here. Maybe that's naive.

Also recently finished Yokai Watch, which I wrote about here.

I've been playing the new Kirby for the past couple days. It satisfies my need for gaming with little to no commitment. It looks great, has some good songs. There's some remixes of old tracks, but they only tease them since they're particular to certain areas in a level you only encounter once. It's annoying because it's much better than the new music. I don't think this game is as good as Triple Deluxe. It feels easier and shorter. The mecha parts are fun. Playing as Metaknight is probably the best part though. 8/10

Yeah, it's not bad. Not great but worth the £20 or so it was in the steam sales, if only for the fact that they have the engine running on basically anything.

Currently playing Hearthstone, which is obviously an ongoing thing. Should play some of the games in my Steam library also.

I bought the Orange Box to have something to do during unemployment. I just started Half Life 2 for the first time and I'm enjoying it, although I hate driving anything in a game and this helicopter is really stressing me out.

I really liked the opening to Half Life 2, but the "game" part never really gabbed me enough to play it for more than a couple of hours. Portal is cool though.
quote

Portal is okay so far. I may know too much about it to find the story interesting and just get frustrated with the puzzles.

I mostly only play RPGs, so Half Life is pretty different for me. I've been playing Skyrim for a couple weeks just walking around sniping people with a bow, so this made sense as a next step.

Playing through the Ys series. Already played Ys I & II Chronicles+ and then played Ys III: Wanderers of Ys and Ys: Oath in Felghana (for comparison). Doing videos on them as I go. Check 'em out. I'm also getting closer (hopefully) to the end of Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir. This game is way longer than it needs to be, but I don't think I'd mind so much if I didn't have to play through a lot of the same content five times in a row.

What's a good fps/urban warfare for PC? I enjoy sneaking around corners and sniping much more than driving dune buggies and herding things from Tremors.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution sounds like it could fit the bill. One of my favorite games in the past decade. Possibly also Rainbow Six Siege.

Apparently that new Deus Ex is getting pretty good reviews too and apparently has pretty similar gameplay to HR so if you enjoy that you’ll probably enjoy the new one too. Not that I know much about it; the most recent game I’ve played enough to evaluate it is probably Portal 2.

The world is like a ride at an amusement park. It goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it’s very brightly coloured and it’s very loud and it’s fun for awhile. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question, is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, “hey – don't worry, don’t be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride…” And we… kill those people. Haha. “Shut him up. We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real.” It’s just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. Jesus murdered; Martin Luther King mudered; Malcolm X murdered; Gandhi murdered; John Lennon murdered; Reagan… wounded. But it doesn’t matter because it’s just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defences each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace. Thank you; you’ve been great.

Cool; let us know what you think.

Also, the original Deus Ex is a classic. I’m not sure whether it’ll fit the bill as well as HR will, but it’ll be a lot easier to run. Of course, the graphics won’t be nearly as impressive.

So, I'm about 15 hours into the game. I've been doing my usual (for this game series) and just exploring everything and attempting a no-kill run-through. So far not so good. I murder killed one dude in the tutorial by mistake figuring out the controls, and I also knocked out a room full of scientists and guards using gas only to inquisitively flick a switch that electrocuted one of them. There was also the occasion for looking for a solution to a problem that ended in other people killing other people to solve it . I didn't do any killing, but I wonder if that will affect my kill count or whatever.

The new control scheme isn't that good, but thankfully there's an option to copy the one from Human Revolution.

I have a few gripes:-
* The voice acting, outside of the lead, is completely terrible. Not up to the same standard as HR.
* Given all the good graphics they've included, and the focus on one-on-one conversations, some facial motion capture would've been good. It would get rid of the horrendous lip-sync
* There's some hoorah about the preorder DLC. One of them is actually a consumable (but wasn't marketed as such and in HR, it wasn't consumable) which is actually super annoying.

Gripes aside, I'm massively enjoying the game. Though, I probably would've done anyway.

New Vision is great, and unlike the various Morrowind enhancements it doesn't make fundamental changes to the art design. The HDTP one changes Gunthur's character model though, which is a bit jarring. Not sure if you can turn that off.

As for MD... I haven't been able to muster the enthusiasm to care about it. Really wish they'd gone with a new character in a new time period because to me it looks way too much like "Human Revolution with slightly better graphics".

Matt
That's basically what it is, so you will probably be disappointed

I really enjoyed HR, though, so as a result I'm really enjoying this. There are some new augments to try out which are story related and it's taking the mechanical apartheid thing for the ride. Haven't had a chance to play since writing the above, but overall the narrative is ok and enjoyable.

Not really comparable to the original, though. Neither of the new games are to be fair,
quote
Better Ghost
To be fair, expecting a new DE game to top the original is probably like expecting Opeth to top Blackwater Park, or like expecting a new Star Wars film to top The Empire Strikes Back. You could expect that, but you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment if you do so.

Honestly the only recent or forthcoming game that I really feel like I need is Breath of the Wild (which is honestly the Zelda game I’ve wanted them to make ever since they went 3D), and since I don’t play games enough to justify spending hundreds of dollars on a console it’ll probably still be years until I play it. I’ll probably get it when the Wii U drops to $50 or so used.

I keep thinking I'll buy a Wii at some point, since I never owned one, but it'll just sit gathering dust with my Gamecube (which I've had since about 2003 ).

I picked this up at a store in York this weekend. It will go nicely next to my PS2 games MGS games.

Thumper is awesome, although the gulf in aesthetic design between it and Rez pretty much sums up Western vs Japanese art direction.

I'm playing nothing for the first time in a long time, aside from occasionally visiting Final Fantasy Tactics on my ipad. largely because of the extensive amount of tabletop RPGs I've been playing, video games have really lost their appeal.

Yeah, my desire to play CRPGs plummeted once I got started with tabletop. I still play puzzle/adventure and action games though.

I only ever liked the Final Fantasy series, and even then I only liked five of them. I can't tolerate pretty much anything else. Nor can I stand anime, manga, or those vending machines that sell used panties.
