We're actually getting Dragon Quest VII 3DS
and VIII
Trailer for the JP version from a few years ago: Amazing news considering the 3DS version of VII is almost 3 years old now. Dragon Quest is pretty much the only JRPG series besides Megami Tensei that I actually play now days. The original PS1 version of VII was not particularly, based on what little I played of it, but this version is supposed fixes all the things that were wrong with it. The trailer looks awesome, in any case. |

That does look awesome. I should actually finish VIII one of these days.

If that theme song doesn’t get you hyped to go on a big adventure, you’re lying. Someone get me a 3DS please.

US Gamer has a decent interview with the dev team behind the DQVII remake. Dunno if I'll be playing it this year but I'll definitely pick it up soon after release to help sales.

Dragon Quest and Dragon Warrior are the same series (DW is a localised market name that they quit using when DQVIII came out), but DWVII has been substantially overhauled for the 3DS version.

Oh I see. The customized characters threw me off. I'm actually playing this. There's a really odd mix of juvenile sex humor about "funbags," one character crying rape, and the best shield/armor I've found for the female companion being a serving tray and lingerie.

The translation of that game is infamous but honestly it doesn't sound wildly out of step with some of the other games in the series either.
V is good. VI is... I still need to finish it. I think I was over half way but its fairly hard going. The ability system and world/level design are better than the earlier games but weak characters and lack of clear narrative goals kill momentum. |
