Registration to Fool's Gold is free! We do insist that you try to abide by the following guidelines below.
- Be Civil
We only have a limited amount of patience for troll-like behavior. Troll-like behavior includes, but is not limited to, things such as: flaming for no reason, spamming inappropriate sections of the forum, causing problems, etc. In the end, it comes down to:
Use Your Fucking Brain.
If in doubt whether a given course of action is acceptable, your best bet is to ask a staff member.
- The various forums exist for a purpose
The descriptions speak for themselves so please read through them before you post. Spam in inappropriate places will be removed.
- Keep graphic content that will offend people behind spoiler tags
Obscene stuff is fine so long as you inform the other members that you're posting something obscene. Make sure people know where your links go and mark any disturbing/pornographic material with NSFW tags and spoilers. If you need help understanding how NSFW tags work, check here. Also, we do have an Adult Discussion forum for a reason; if you're going to be posting a lot of explicit material, your best bet is to keep it in there.
Posting child pornography will always result in a permament ban of all your existing accounts. No exceptions.
- It's been done before
We've got a number of threads for reccurring topics (such as an Uninteresting Stories thread, a 'Now Playing' thread, a YouTube thread, and a Photo Thread) so we don't clutter up the board with a plethora of nearly identical threads. Please check to make certain that there isn't already a thread for your generic topic, should you feel like posting a thread of that nature.
- No unsolicited advertising
In fact, if you even look like a spambot, we probably won't even activate your account, and if you post anything that looks like advertising, we'll probably just permaban you. We're all sick of that crap.
- Use common sense when creating second accounts
On the whole we'll allow members to have second accounts if they serve funny or constructive purposes. However, creating a second account to get around or argue a ban will simply result in your ban time being increased. There are plenty of ways to get in touch with the staff outside of creating a second account; most staff members have messenger contact details in their profiles and plenty of them have links to their accounts on frequently used social networking communities like Last.fm, LiveJournal and Facebook in their signatures as well.
On the whole we tend to be extremely lenient in enforcing most of these rules; however, a single violation of #3 will result in an instant ban, which will start at a week for a user with no prior offences and increase with each occurrence thereafter. Also, repeated instances of unfunny violations of #1 by newcomers will probably just result in us banning you for extended periods of time (or even permanently) without warning. What gets defined as "unfunny" is obviously highly subjective, but the reactions of long-term members should give you a reasonable expectation of how your antics are being received.
